In the interest of maintaining the activity and productivity of the Veritas Society, this document will be the Veritas Constitution. This will be the dominant authority for the Veritas Society. It will go into effect upon approval by any of the methods listed in Article IV. (Approved January 25th, 2007, by 100% of Council, 100% of Staff, and 92.7% of Member votes.)

I. Voting

  • All voting under this document will have one week for voting and discussion, unless otherwise stated. Voting may terminate early if all eligible people have voted. Steps should be taken to ensure that each person votes only once in each category being considered. Votes will be calculated as a percentage of those who vote.

II. Veritas Staff

  • The Veritas Staff will consist of a Council, Teachers, Moderators, and a Tech Team.

A. Veritas Council

  • The Council will be the highest administrative authority under this document, and will be responsible for the general guidance and oversight of the community.
  • 1. Council members will be added under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Unanimous approval by the Council, with one month for voting and discussion.
    • b. Two-thirds approval by the Council, and two-thirds approval by the Staff, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
    • c. Two-thirds approval by the Staff, two-thirds approval by the members, and the approval of one Council member, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
    • d. Three-fourths approval by the Staff, and three-fourths approval by the members, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
  • 2. While it should only be done after careful thought about the future of the community, Council members may be removed under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Resignation of the Council member.
    • b. Two-thirds approval by the Council, two-thirds approval by the Staff, and two-thirds approval by the members, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
    • c. Three-fourths approval by the Staff, two-thirds approval by the members, and the approval of one Council member, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
    • d. Three-fourths approval by the Staff, and three-fourths approval by the members, with two weeks for voting and discussion.

B. Veritas Teachers

  • The Veritas Teachers will be responsible for the selection, creation, or direction of educational content. They may delegate these tasks as appropriate.
  • 1. Veritas Teachers will be added under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Majority approval by the Council.
    • b. Majority approval by the Staff, and approval of one Council member.
  • 2. Veritas Teachers will be removed under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Majority approval by the Council.
    • b. Majority approval by the Staff, and approval of one Council member.

C. Veritas Moderators

  • The Veritas Moderators will be responsible for monitoring the content of the community, enforcing the rules, and guiding the community in a positive direction.
  • 1. Veritas Moderators will be added under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Majority approval by the Council.
    • b. Majority approval by the Staff, and approval of one Council member.
    • c. Two-thirds approval by the Staff, and majority approval of the members.
  • 2. Veritas Moderators will be removed under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Majority approval by the Council.
    • b. Two-thirds approval by the Staff, and approval of one Council member.
    • c. Two-thirds approval by the Staff, and two-thirds approval of the members.

D. Veritas Tech Team

  • The Tech Team will perform technical tasks for the maintenance of the community, and for the implementation of this document. Various levels of access may be granted to members of the Tech Team by the Council.
  • 1. Tech Team members may be added under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Unanimous approval by the Council, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
    • b. Majority approval by the Council, and two-thirds approval by the Staff, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
  • 2. Due to the sensitive nature of the access granted to the Tech Team, Tech Team members will be removed under any of the following conditions:
    • a. Majority approval by the Council.
    • b. Majority approval by the Staff, and approval of one Council member.

E. Emergencies

  • During emergency situations, or when a security risk is perceived, access of a Staff member may be temporarily restricted. Upon approval of a Council member, the restriction of access may continue until the completion of a vote.

F. Non-staff positions

  • Non-staff positions may be created by the Staff as seen fit for the productivity of the community. Unofficial non-staff positions may be created by any Staff member as desired, and official non-staff positions can be created by approval of one member of Council, or by majority vote of the Staff.

III. Veritas Rules

  • The Veritas Rules will be changed upon any of the following conditions:
    • A. Majority approval by the Council.
    • B. Majority approval by the Staff, and approval of one Council member.
    • C. Two-thirds approval by the Staff, and majority approval by the members.

IV. Amendments

  • Amendments to this document will be valid under any of the following conditions:
    • A. Unanimous approval by the Council, and two-thirds approval by the Staff, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
    • B. Two-thirds approval by the Council, two-thirds approval by the Staff, and two-thirds approval by the members, with two weeks for voting and discussion.
