The basic equation of a magical operation:
"Let W stand for the Will of the individual magician; I for the Imaginative Faculty; L, the length of time the operation is conducted thus proportionate to the power put into it; multiplied by C or divided by D respectively for conducive or detrimental concurrent circumstances; and R for the result, where all variables are represented on a scale from -10 to 10 and the ordinary willpower, imaginative faculty, patience (the measurement of potential length of time of the operation) being at anywhere between 0 and -5 generally speaking without training, and a positive number result for "r" representing a more or less successful result:
[(w + i)*(l)]*c = r for conducive circumstances or [(w + i)*(l)]/d = r for detrimental concurrent circumstances."
