Talk:Metaphysics
From Veritas
What about the comment I made about magick and whatnot not being beyond nature? That is an arguement I have heard several people other than myself use (I don't think I've ever used it myself), or is that getting to 'contraversal'? --Crowley
- I don't think this is actually the reason the word "metaphysics" is used for any such topics. "Physics" no longer means "nature" to us. We have words like "supernatural" and "paranormal" for that, and that usage of "metaphysics" refers to either beyond the physical, or the extrapolation of the mind-matter relationship which is also spoken of in the philosophy of metaphysics. Sometimes the actual origin of a word has less to do with why it's used than what it sounds like in a contemporary context. Kobok 15:32, 10 Jul 2005 (EDT)
- The term meta-physics comes from two greek words, meta and physics. Physics in the greek (no use trying to push the english definition on a greek word ;)) means "natural", which further in the greek means "material" (ie, anything you can punch, throw, put in a jar, or something similar). What is the proof that magic is material? ~kakkarot 06:34, 12 Jul 2005 (PDT)
- And "current" from the latin means "that which runs", but we don't call marathon runners a "current". For words which have evolved, the most important thing is the meaning they've acquired rather than the precise etymological roots. Kobok 12:02, 12 Jul 2005 (PDT)
- Rolls eyes at Crowley* Give up the ghost!
Am I the only one who knows how to make a propor Talk entry? lol
- No, you don't appear to know at all :) I've never seen any talk entry have bullet points... Plus you didn't sign it with your name. So, all in all it appears not even you know. --Crowley 12:35, 12 Jul 2005 (PDT)

AHEM
You press the big old Plus sign, next to Edit... kind of hard to miss, if you are pressing Edit all the time. The bullet is the result of not having a subject.
- That's for created a new topic on a talk page. Plus that button dosn't appear on some skins ;) --Crowley 12:41, 12 Jul 2005 (PDT)
