Editing pages

To edit articles, click to log in at the top right. The wiki login is separate from the forum login, so you will need to click "create an account" even if you already have a forum account. (Although for simplicity you may certainly use the same login name and password as on the forums.) After logging in, you can go to any page on the vsociety wiki area which is not locked and click the edit button at the top of the page.

Creating a new page

Type in the name of the page you want in the search bar at the left, click "Go", and click where it says "to create this page click [new page title]". This takes you to a blank page which can be edited, and from there it's a normal progression of entering in information, clicking "Show preview" to ensure your work is properly formatted to appear the way you envisioned it and finally clicking "Save page".

Adding a page to a category

Unless a page is added to a category the only ways to find that page are through the search function and by manually entering in the URL for the page.

To add a page to a category, place the tag [[Category:Name of category]] at the end of the body of the text while editing the page. A complete list of categories can be found here. Save your changes and go to the appropriate category section to ensure that it worked. For instance, to add the topic Demon to the category Definitions, the tag [[Category:Definitions]] was added to the end of the text.

Discussion pages

Every page on the wiki also has a discussion (or "talk") page associated with it, the talk page for this page is located here. To access the talk page, simply click the 'discussion' button at the top of the page. The talk pages are used to discuss the entries on the page to help to bring them nearer to perfection. A talk page is laid out differently than a topic page, in that many different users will be adding comments, and you may only wish to address one of these comments. A talk page is edited in the same way as a topic, although you don't add categories.

To start a new subject on which to comment, start by making a new heading at the bottom of the page. A new heading is created by placing a number of equal signs either side of the words. For example, the heading "Discussion pages" above was created by entering "==TalkPages==" into the text. For talk page headings it is best to use three equal signs on each side.

After you have done this, you can type your comment. At the end of your comment, you should put ~~~~. When you then submit the page, this will be changed into your user name (which will also be a link to your user page) and the time at which you posted. This allows other users to know who posted the comment.

To reply to another comment, you simply place your comment after that one (and before anyother comments that follow it), but you indent it to show it is a reply. To indent, you place a semicolon (:) before each paragraph of your comment. If the previous paragraph is already indented, simply add one more semincolon than it has.

User pages

Every user has a User Page. The user page is basically a space to tell other users about yourself. While others can edit it, we urge them not to, as it is your space.

User pages are located at http://VSociety.net/index.php?title=User:UserName For example, http://VSociety.net/index.php?title=User:Crowley

User talk pages

Just like topic pages, user pages have a talk page as well. These are generally used for leaving messages for the user who's talk page it is. Talk pages are located at http://VSociety.net/index.php?title=User_talk:UserName
