Divination

From Veritas

The art of reading symbols and omens, to foretell the future; or reading such symbols in the hopes of understanding situations in an intuitive manner.

Individual forms of divination usually have a suffix, which stems from the Greco-Latin word mantia, which means "prophecy".

There are possibly dozens of phrases, some of which include: cartomancy, bibliomancy, lithomancy, geomancy and aeromancy.

One form of divination, which is actually a method of harnessing clairvoyance, is called scrying. This is the art by which the diviner uses reflective surfaces, such as crystal balls and water, to see over distances and to foretell the future.
